Rainbows is about fun and a place to meet new friends, play games and learn new things.
In West Moors Rainbows Unit, we cover a wide range of activities – including craft, cooking, badge challenges and outdoor pursuits.
With the introduction of the new Guiding Programme, Rainbows have embraced the new style skills activities and badges.
The skills challenges have found the Rainbows getting to know themselves better, enabling them to express their feelings and points of view. The skills-based programme helps them to have adventures, become aware of their environment and gives them the opportunity to explore it.
Rainbows do First aid, look at healthy and unhealthy food; keep fit with fitness challenges and a sports evening. We also play lots of games with their favourites being Corners, Granny’s garden, Duck, duck goose and miming.
Along with the skills, Rainbows celebrate events that occur throughout the year – Chinese New Year, World Animal Day, Mothers/Fathers day, Easter and Summer events, the Seasons, and Christmas.
Thinking Day is celebrated and gives the girls a chance to remember the founders of the movement and how Girl guiding has grown.
Each term we have activities such as crafts and games to encourage the girls to understand and put into practice their Promise.
We have lots of fun and learn new things and at the end of each term, we have a party with games, food and sometimes special visitors such as Father Christmas and the Easter bunny.
Rainbows is for 4-7 year olds and is a good start for the girls as they progress through their Guiding life.
We meet every Monday and Tuesdays.
